Members of our congregation visit people locally. There are two Pastoral Assistants, who visit the local nursing home and people who are sick or in need of support. Please contact Janet on 01622 710083 or Chris our Vicar on 01622 717434 if you would like a visit.
Prayer Line and Prayer Visiting
Aylesford Church has a prayer line for anyone who would like to make a special request for prayer to be said at the 10am service on Sundays. Please contact Richard on 01622 717267 to send in a request.
The Vicar and Janet will bring Holy Communion to people in their home on request.
Please call Janet on 01622 710083 or our Vicar on 01622 717434.
Friendship AfternoonWe hold this event on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 2-4pm. We meet in the Brassey Centre in Aylesford village (by the railway crossing). Art and crafts, talks, a chat with friends and a 'Thought for the Day' are all included. Tea and cakes provided. For details contact Janet on 01622 710083.
NB: No groups throughout August
We have a Brassey Bazaar 10am - 12 noon at the Brassey Centre which is open to the public. It is run by volunteers and is an essential link with the community. Call in for a bargain and/or tea or coffee and homemade cakes. We are always pleased to welcome new visitors.
Praise services are held and Holy Communion is taken to the four sheltered homes in the Royal British Legion Village on a monthly rota. It is also taken to Gavin Astor Nursing Home in the British Legion village. The Vicar or Janet take a service at our local Heart of Kent Hospice bi-monthly, Sunday at 3.30pm.
Environment and Climate Group
We meet on the fourth Monday of the month (usually!) at 7.30pm. We discuss current topics and are also currently following the "Eco-cell I" course put together by the Christian Ecology.
We have also met with our MP and corresponded with the main local supermarkets about their policies on Waste. Please contact our Parish Office who will pass your enquiry onto Iris Neel.
Wildflower GardenAs well as having a square in the North corner of the churchyard which is mowed only two or three times a year to enable wild flowers to grow there, we have planted wild flowers in two patches by the path at the South side of the church, to encourage butterflies and bees. The patch in the corner has had a good show of flowers seeded from what we planted there last year, and we replaced the "flower mat" alongside one of the graves with a new one in May. You can see photos of these areas in the Gallery - with bees and a butterfly!
This year organisations were asked to plant poppies to commemorate the anniversary of WW I. We planted them in the North corner area as well as at the back of the flower mat.
For more information, contact the Parish Office who will pass your enquiry onto Iris Neel.
Supporter of Kent Savers
Aylesford Church is now a keen supporter of our local credit union; Kent Savers. We hope to raise awareness of our credit union to help people save safely and borrow responsibly. Friends of Aylesford ChurchThere are many people in Aylesford and Eccles and further afield who have a deep affection for the village church and feel a loyalty towards it. For a variety of reasons they may not attend the church but they love the building, the bells and the churchyard and value their place in the village. You may have been married here or brought your children here for baptism or relatives may be buried in our quiet churchyard or you may love the history of the place. If so, you may wish to keep this link with the church by becoming a Friend of the church.
"The Friends" organise numerous events throughout the year, from Champagne Teas in an past house, to jazz and brass concerts in church, and from Garden safaris round Aylesford, to talk on historical/local topics. Funds raised, support the fabric of the church building and the churchyard. They have made large contributions to the new Garden of Remembrance and to the Organ Appeal.
The fee for Annual membership can be as low as £5. This allows you to be informed of future events and invited to some "Friends Only" occasions. To receive a leaflet about becoming a "Friend", please contact Brenda Sladen the Chairperson on 01622 882395 or the Vicar on 01622 717434.
