Sparkling Christmas tree festival

Aylesford Church sparkled with 65 traditional and wacky Christmas trees for the first two weekends of December 2011. Trees came from local businesses, all the four schools in the parish, local organisations and clubs and from individuals and families. They ranged from a working Thomas the Tank engine model made from Knex (Royal British Legion Industries) to a flock of angels made from balloons (the church's Friendship Afternoon group). Simon Parkin from Meridian TV, broadcast live from the festival at the Reception for exhibitors, and the festival also included many church services, a Christmas brass band concert and an Organ Marathon when the organ was played for over 6 hours by a succession of organists.

Visitors to the festival voted for their favourite trees. The winner was a fascinating "Interactivitree", produced by the Bowden and Mitchell families, which ENCOURAGED children to play with all the toys on it. Second was the WI tree whose decorations were all handmade and the third was the tree from the Poppy Pre-school.
