Wickham Lodge National Garden Scheme open day

Wickham Lodge National Garden Scheme open day
| May 2012

Saturday 26th May 2012 | 11.00am - 5.00pm

This is the fifth year of opening and our 'once a year day', so we should feel confident and relaxed (we wish!).

What a Winter! We worried about the damage of snow and freezing temperatures which didn't happen (well maybe a bit of frost) but what we did lack was the rain (hence the hosepipe ban). This means that with toil and commitment the gardens should be looking their very best for this Open Day. We are expecting a lot of visitors as we were voted the Best Amateur Garden in Kent by 'Kent Life' Magazine 20120 and there still seems to be a lot of interest.

Please come and enjoy the occasion, sitting by the river whilst partaking of a delicious Ploughman's lunch or cream tea prepared by the Church catering team. Richard will be selling Cornish pasties from the Chough Bakeries in Padstow (prize winning Cornish pasties) to take away!

In between, take a stroll around the 14 individual gardens which you come across usually unexpectedly. We hope to have the usual stalls, including plants and cakes. Some of the donations will be given to Aylesford Church.

The great work of the National Garden Scheme has resulted in £22 million being donated for nursing, caring and gardening charities. The NGS scheme supports the following charities:

Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie Cancer care, Help the Hospices, Crossroads Care, The Queen's Nursing Institute, The Gardener's Royal Benevolent Fund (Perennial) and The National Trust.

We look forward to seeing you.

Richard and Cherith Bourne
